The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) was established in 1997. Based on School of Mechanical Engineering, the department established the first-level key discipline “Management Science and Engineering” jointly with Antai College of Economics and Management. As an interdisciplinary between engineering and management, Industrial Engineering (IE) has been developed as “Pilot” discipline authorized by Ministry of Education. The department has doctoral and master programs. The faculty of IEM includes “Yangtze River Scholars”, “New Century Talents”, and “Pilot teaching team” etc. There are four “Excellent Courses”. Key major courses are taught in English.

       IE is an interdisciplinary subject developed on the basis of engineering and management science. We aim to cultivate innovative talents in science and technology. We focus on mathematics teaching (Operations Research, Statistics, etc.), practice training, and international collaboration (Georgia Tech, Purdue University, and Paris Tech etc.). Currently, the major research areas are: 1) production and service operation management; 2) quality and reliability engineering, 3) logistics and supply chain management, and 4) product engineering. There are also related research on intelligent manufacturing and big data analysis, with applications in automobiles industry, aerospace industry, and service etc. The department has China Quality Development Research Institute and Health Service System and Hospital Operation Management Research Center. Our alumni are widely employed in aerospace, automobiles, and electronics industries; logistics, finance and medical services; and research institutions and universities.
